Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. When she was a girl, Ford was battling obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by the word association. Ford's love for acting grew in her early years. Ford joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't for her. Ford applied again to Central School of Speech and Drama and, after her fourth application, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor was later to play frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford could graduate in 1993. She already made a TV appearance in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in the year 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. In addition to her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed due to her stand-up comedy in the year 1996.
